29.1. Automated Data Transfer: Overview

What is Automated Data Transfer (ADT)?

Automated Data Transfer (ADT) is highly recommended to ensure that your offline availability is frequently and automatically synchronised with your live internet availability, and other servers, without a manual user instruction. With Automated Data Transfer, ResRequest automatically runs data transfers, which means that your users no longer need to remember to manually initiate them, which reduces your risk of your servers being out of synch.

Tips when working with ADT

  1. TIP: ADT schedules can be disrupted by power failures, loss in internet connection, and switching the server off. If your ADT service fails, be sure to check that you 'Enable' & 'Schedule data transfer to run immediately' from the ADT schedule. This will run the data transfer and pick up changes from the web / vice versa.

  2. TIP: ADT schedules can fail when two reservation environments are master, for example: web and reservation office.
TRICK: To ascertain which server you are connected to look at the top left hand corner of your ResRequest window, as highlighted below:

When the icon displays green, your environment is master. When the icon displays black, your environment is slave.

The following data transfer results can occur:
Web (master) + RS/RA etc.... (master) = Data transfer failure
Web (master) + RS (slave) = Successful Data Transfer
Web (slave) + RS (slave) = Data transfer failure
Web (slave) + RS (master) = Successful Data Transfer

The recommended way to set the web to Master for successful data transfers is:

And remember, if you are ever concerned, we are just an email away!
