Home → Wiki → Troubleshooting → FIREFOX: Firefox is slow after updating to Firefox 38
After the recent update to Firefox 38, some Windows users may notice that Firefox responds more slowly than its prior versions. Perhaps while you're typing in a search, entering a web address, displaying images or navigate its controls.
Mozilla is currently working on a long-term fix, but if you are affected, you can take these steps to fix the issue yourself:
1. Click the menu button and choose Options (NOTE: for Mac users select Preferences).
2. Select the
panel and the tab.3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
4. Click the menu button and then click exit .
5. Restart Firefox the way you normally do.
Since the problem mainly occurs when using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver included with Windows, installing a dedicated graphics driver for your hardware will help.
In order to update your graphics driver, see Search for and install new graphics drivers.
Should the above solutions not work, try downgrading Firefox to version 37.0.2:
